I.Background of Automotive CMS

Electronic rearview mirrors, also known as Camera Monitor Systems (CMS), are a combination of cameras and displays designed to enhance the driver's visual perception of the vehicle's surroundings and rear side, thereby improving driving safety and comfort. The images captured by external cameras are displayed on screens inside the cabin after data processing, and can integrate functions such as blind spot warnings and obstacle alerts.

Electronic rearview mirrors are mainly divided into electronic interior rearview mirrors and electronic exterior rearview mirrors. The electronic interior rearview mirror is often referred to as a streaming rearview mirror, while the electronic exterior rearview mirror is generally directly referred to as an electronic rearview mirror (CMS). Compared to traditional optical rearview mirrors, CMS devices are smaller in size. The mirror glass is replaced by cameras, and the images are displayed on a screen rather than on a conventional reflective mirror surface. This allows for more flexible viewing angles and a broader field of vision, providing better performance in conditions such as night, rain, snow, and fog.

受限于相关法规,CMS电子后视镜取代传统光学镜仅在部分国家及地区可以实现。而国内法规正在实行之中:我国于2022年12月29日颁布了国家标准号为GB 15084- 2022的《机动车辆间接视野装置性能和安装要求》,新增了“摄像机-监视器系统”、“视镜和CMS双功能系统”等内容。新标准将于2023年7月1日正式开始实施,为国内电子外后视镜的“上车”提供了机遇。

II. Compared to traditional optical rearview mirrors, E-mirrors have many obvious advantages:

1. Wider Field of View: Electronic rearview mirrors overcome the limitations imposed by the curvature, shape, size, and angle of traditional optical rearview mirrors. Through various sensors and cameras, drivers can obtain more imagery, ensuring the safety of the vehicle and other road participants.

2. Less Affected by Environment: Traditional optical rearview mirrors primarily expand the field of view through mirror reflections. In adverse weather conditions such as rain or snow, the driver's view is usually greatly restricted. Electronic rearview mirrors, on the other hand, can mitigate these environmental impacts through hardware and software, ensuring the driver's view remains unobstructed.

3. Reduced Air Resistance and Wind Noise: The external components of electronic rearview mirrors are limited to the camera sensors, which are one-third or even smaller in size compared to traditional optical rearview mirrors. Moreover, electronic rearview mirrors are more aerodynamic, which also contributes to further reducing wind noise at high speeds.

4. Automatic Light Compensation: Through the use of strong light suppression algorithms and weak light compensation algorithms, the glare from vehicles behind is diminished or compensated for, ensuring clear visibility of the rear situation and guaranteeing driver safety.

III. In-depth Analysis of the Automotive E-Mirror CMS Industry Chain:

Ebom Intelligent Manufacturing has excellent online internet resources. We primarily utilize three forms of organization: public accounts, WeChat groups, and web pages. Currently, we have over 80,000 registered members with high relevance to the automotive industry, covering more than 4,000 enterprises. Our members are involved in various sectors including automotive adjustable glass, LiDAR, cameras (including DMS, CMS, OMS), millimeter-wave radar, automotive human-machine interface (HMI), vehicle display screen cover plates and lamination, automotive head-up displays (HUD), automotive intelligent surfaces, interior ambient lighting, intelligent vehicle lighting, and various interior decoration process technologies.

Ebun hopes to build a platform for individuals across the entire automotive electronic rearview mirror industry chain to come together for a technological exchange. The aim is to delve into the development trends of automotive electronic rearview mirrors and discuss technologies collaboratively. This industry chain includes: OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers), various tiers of suppliers, autonomous driving companies, electronic rearview mirror suppliers, algorithm providers, display suppliers, camera module companies, optical lens component manufacturers, chip and sensor firms, as well as various raw material and equipment manufacturers, universities, associations, and other friends from the complete industry chain. Ebun looks forward to this platform, focused on the functional and intelligent aspects of vehicle interiors and exteriors, better serving the Chinese automotive industry.
